East and Southeast Asia Consultation on Working with Boys and Men for Gender Equality

More than 70 people came together in Cambodia for the East and Southeast Asia Consultation on Working with Boys and Men for Gender Equality and Gender based Prevention. Held at the Cambodiana Hotel on September 28-30, 2009, the meeting was a follow up gathering to previous consultations in Thailand in 2007. Participants cam from various countries and agencies, including female non-government organisations, male groups, donors and government delegations. The consultations were held by Partners for Prevention, Unifem, the UNV Regional Joint Program for Gender-based Violence Prevention in Asia and the Pacific, Gender and Development for Cambodia, MenEngage and UNDP.

The aim of the consultations was to:
1) Discuss the concept of masculinity, gender relations and the prevention of gender-based violence;
2) Share experiences and best practice already carried out involving men and boys in preventing gender-based violence against women and the achievement of gender justice;
3) Discuss steps to develop regional cooperation involving men and boys in preventing gender-based violence against women and achieving gender justice.
